Sony continues to increase data density to offer a smooth migration path to still higher capacity in the future. Outstanding magnetic transfer characteristics support long-term archival storage and a low error rate. Key to this performance is Sony's anti-oxidation coated ultra-fine MP+++ (Metal Particle) magnetic material in DDS4 tape. To assure reliability under the stress of repetitive read/write operations, Sony uses highly durable HCL (High Cross Linkage) binder with special additives. Sony's RDP mechanism sandwiches the tape between textured sheets to help maintain smooth tape winding. A high-strength lid guards against accidental breakage.
