Overview
The SecureBox family of device servers is the first to be certified
by NIST for AES-encrypted secure data communications in government
facilities. The SecureBox SDS1100 connects serial devices to a
network and ensures that the information within these devices can
be securely accessed and transmitted over the network or the
Internet. The SecureBox SDS1100 incorporates 128-256 bit Advanced
Encryption Standard (AES) and is certified by the National
Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to meet the Federal
Information Processing Standards (FIPS) now required for all
networked equipment used in government facilities. The SDS1100 is
also appropriate for commercial applications where secure data
communications are essential, such as energy, medical and financial
institutions. Using a method called serial tunneling, the SDS1100
encrypts and encapsulates serial data into packets and transports
it over Ethernet. Using two SDS1100 device servers connected by a
network, secure virtual serial connections can be extended across a
facility or around the world. The Lantronix approach to secure
communications is transparent to your attached devices and
software. There is no need to change the way you work or develop
special software to encrypt/decrypt information over the network.
Lantronix Secure Com Port Redirector (SCPR) software simplifies the
integration process by extending the functionality of
COM-port-based Windows applications. SCPR creates encrypted virtual
COM ports and provides secure transportation of sensitive
information to remote SDS1100 device servers on the network or the
Internet. In modem emulation mode, the SDS1100 is used to replace
dial-up modems. The unit accepts modem AT commands on the serial
port and establishes a secure network connection to the end device,
providing a cost-effective solution by eliminating dedicated modems
and phone lines. The Windows based configuration software and web
interface simplifies configuration by providing a user-friendly
interface with built-in online help that minimizes setup time and
configuration questions. The SDS1100 can also be set up locally
through its serial port, or remotely over a network using Telnet or
a web browser. For added security, the web interface can be
disabled. Flash memory enables maintenance-free, non-volatile
storage of web pages, and facilitates future system software
upgrades. If you're looking for the most secure, cost-effective and
scalable means to network-enable your serial devices, look no
further than the Lantronix SecureBox SDS1100.
