An important note to remember when it comes to terminators is that a passive terminator simply draws power from the system interface card to regulate the impedance in the line, while an active terminator uses a voltage regulator to control the flow of data. Active styles are always preferred, and most CTG active terminators come with a standard LED to help monitor the activity in the line.
