EZ CONNECT CABLE MODEM
The SMC EZ Connect cable modem (SMC8004CM) is a standards based cable modem that provides high-speed Internet access to both the residential and the small office and home office (SOHO) user. This cable modem operates on two-way cable systems enabling higher performance and taking advantage of DOCSIS 2.0 technology with asymmetric connections of up to 38 Mbps downstream and 30 Mbps upstream. To provide this high-speed connection, this cable modem functions as a bridge between the cable network and the PC using either the standard Ethernet or USB interface providing maximum flexibility and use. The SMC EZ Connect cable modem is CableLabs certified for DOCSIS 1.1, and software upgradeable to DOCSIS 2.0 thus ensuring compatibility with a majority of the cable Internet providers. It utilizes the Texas Instruments TNETC4401 chipset, which has improved raw bridging performance up to 54Kpps, as well as filtered bridging performance of more than 27Kpps with one filter. It also includes Texas Instruments TurboDOX technology, which increases bandwidth efficiency by 3x to 13x for TCP applications. Installation is so quick and easy it can even be done by endusers. The USB port allows plug-and-play connectivity without opening the computer or performing complex configurations. Front-panel LEDs clearly display both cable and network status. A browser-based utility allows convenient viewing of key network statistics. DHCP and TFTP clients allow the modem to automatically get its IP address and configuration data from network servers, without the intervention of either the user or installer. Advanced features include IP address filtering to prevent unwanted traffic on the network and SNMP agents that permit remote configuration and monitoring from a management station equipped with an SNMP server. DES data encryption ensures complete privacy for transmitted information over cable media. Combine these features with SMC's service and support and you have the ideal solution for broadband access.
