The HP StorageWorks 1500 cs Modular Smart Array is a 2Gb Fiber Channel SAN attached 2U controller shelf that connects to both enterprise-class SCSI and Serial ATA (SATA) disk enclosures. HP recommends SCSI drives for intensive heavy I/O requirements while SATA drives should only be used in archived, reference, or "near on-line" disk-to-disk backup configurations. This combination provides customers with a low-cost, high-capacity storage solution. The MSA1500 cs provides 2Gb Fiber Channel to the hosts. By utilizing existing SCSI drive enclosures and MSA1000/1500 controller technology and integrating the use of the lowest cost SATA hard drives and enclosures, the MSA1500 cs lowers the total cost of ownership and extends the customers hardware investments into the future.
