The Campus-RS REX2 (Remote Ethernet eXpress) is an interface module that installs directly into a Campus-RS remote device or Campus-RS Star concentrator and provides interconnectivity of geographically dispersed Ethernet LANs within a private enterprise network. The Campus-RS REX2 functions as a full-bandwidth Ethernet remote bridge, or a static or dynamic IP router, using the existing copper infrastructure as the transmission medium to provide repeaterless connectivity between LAN segments up to 4.6 Mbps. The Campus-RS REX2's robust architecture eliminates the need for other bridges, routers and DSU/CSUs. It provides a 10/100 auto sensing port, an embedded SNMP agent and IEEE 802.1d transparent MAC-layer bridging. HDLC and PPP encapsulation options and VLAN pass through IP routing allow interoperability with other internetworking devices. The Campus-RS REX2 can be used to extend subnetworks to remote sites within a private enterprise network, or to connect to the public T1/E1 wide area network (WAN) to internetwork sites separated by greater distances.
